Driver Succeeds in Lease Purchase at FFE

@ 05:32 AM (46 months, 16 days ago)
Driver Donald Douglas of Glen Heights, TX is working his way towards owning a truck, thanks to the lease purchase program at FFE. The program offers the opportunity to own a truck without a lot of money down and the added benefit of a business support system. Credit isn’t an issue as long as drivers have a clean DAC and MVR. Drivers can start off right with a $2,000 sign on bonus, a $2,600 referral bonus plan, full tank of fuel on first dispatch and a $200 fuel credit for weeks two, three and four. “The program allows drivers like me to take it to the next level but it is also convenient and works with your lifestyle,” Douglas points out.
Douglas says, “I didn’t know what to expect of the program, but I knew what I had to do.” In 2005, Douglas averaged $1.55 per mile with a generous fuel surcharge, exceeding the national average of $1.11. Douglas is still going strong and says his greatest accomplishment is not failing during the first year.
Douglas was laid off from his job in telecommunications over two years ago. When researching new jobs, he came across information on truck driving. “I did some more research and the rest is history,” said Douglas.
In addition to participating in the lease purchase program, Douglas is an FFE Road Team member. The Road Team is a driver mentor program that gives guidance to new drivers. “If I can help someone, that helps me and the company too,” said Douglas.
Away from work, Douglas enjoys spending time with his six-year-old son, Tore Dechun. They hang out and especially like to play video games together.
FFE is seeking company drivers and owner operators who have a good work ethic and like to earn good money. If you would like the chance average $1.11 per mile, along with a $2,000.00 sign on bonus, call 1-800-569-9298. Or you can visit

Canadian Trucking Alliance Granted Standing by Quebec Court of Appeal

@ 11:14 AM (46 months, 21 days ago)

(OTTAWA: Jan. 20, 2006) - The Quebec Court of Appeal has granted standing to the Canadian Trucking Alliance (CTA) to intervene in support of a New Brunswick carrier who has been charged with violating Quebec's Code de securite routiere over the placement of lights on the rear of a trailer. According to the Alliance, the case raises fundamental questions regarding federal versus provincial jurisdiction in motor carrier transport.

The case revolves around a ticket issued in Quebec to Midland Transport for violating the section of the Code which deals with the placement of rear marker lights on the back of a trailer. Midland fought the ticket in provincial court and lost, but argued successfully before the Quebec superior court that as a carrier within federal jurisdiction, it should only be required to conform to technical standards for lighting adopted by the federal government. Quebec is now challenging the superior court decision before the Court of Appeal, the highest court in the province.

"From CTA's point of view, this case raises important constitutional issues which could have enormous consequences for the trucking industry" noted CTA Chief Executive Officer David Bradley. "The appeal court must decide on the constitutional applicability of the relevant section of the provincial Code de securite routiere on a carrier within federal jurisdiction. It is one thing for provinces to set varying operating requirements for carriers to comply with - but we have always understood that a vehicle manufactured to federal specifications should be free to travel anywhere the country. We are worried that this fundamental principle is at stake."

CTA is being represented in this matter by well-known transportation lawyer David Blair from the Quebec City office of Heenan Blaikie Aubut. It is expected that the Court of Appeal will hear the case in the fall of 2006, following the submission of written briefs from the parties.
